Goal: Learn how to design and build a website by using WordPress.org open source software hosted on TCEF website.
How we organize: students will be split into small teams with 5-6 students in each team. There will be 1-2 coaches that are assigned to each team. Our coaches are students’ parents what are experienced IT engineers (WordPress experience is not required).
Phase One: Understand WordPress
Goals of Phase One include:
- Understand the software development life cycle.
- Understand website design workflow.
- Know how to use some commonly use UI look and feel plugins such as custom fonts, buttons and animations.
- Know how to use some commonly used widgets like Captcha, weather, calendar and map.
- Know how to use advanced plugins like wp-forms, wp-contact, membership management, event registration, and volunteer management.
Each student will be assigned to design and implement a personal website.
Phase Two: Build a Fully Functional Website
Goals of Phase Two include:
- Learn how to use the advanced WordPress features to meet the business requirements.
- Learn how to work as a team to design and build a website.
- Lean how to take meeting notes, create action items and follow up team member’s work.
In Phase Two, students will work as a team to design and create a website together. They can either setup their own company or they can rewrite our TCEF website. Students will focus on applying the advanced features of WordPress to a website.
Phase Three
The TCEF IT-Club is providing Web design service to our local communities for free. Selected volunteer students will be working on those real projects from our customers.
