Just in Time Learning

The power of Internet search engines, online courses, video tutorial and tech forums enable our students to access training whenever they want. This is where just-in-time learning comes in. It’s where learning is available on-demand and can be accessed when the learner needs it. When you learn just in time, with a clear goal to reach or problem to solve, you will be highly motivated and highly focused. Your study will be very efficient. The TCEF student IT Club will promote using just in time learning, to make our students get ready for the next big thing in technology!

The Real Project, Real Requirements

In this club, students learn computer languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They also learn website building tools like WordPress. What make our Student IT Club special is that we let the students to work by using the real project requirements from the beginning. Our Student IT Club students are involved in contributing and maintaining the TCEF website your are looking at. Many people, small business, and non-profit organizations have already expressed their interests to let our students in the TCEF IT Club to help them build websites!

Project Management and Leadership Development:

We learn by working on projects in a 5-8 students team. The students have to manage the project themselves from design, implementation to testing. Every team has 2-3 coaches. Our coaches are volunteer parents who have been working in IT for many years. However, our coaches will not directly involve in the website development. They are acting as project consultants. They will help and guide the students to resolve any issues, such as technical problems and project management issues.

Public Speech and Technical Presentation Skills:

To win in the nowadays competitions, you not only have to work hard, but also need to present your work extremely well.

In order to build up students’ public speech and technical presentation skills, besides motivating and teaching students, we also give students opportunities to present their work in front of people. Every month, there will be a all-hands meeting where each project team is required to present their project in front of the students and coaches. We treat this presentation seriously, even for a simple project. There is a rehearsal before the presentation and students are required to dress formally during the presentation and act professionally.

Commitment to the Team:

Every student is required to sign a team work commitment contract before joining to a project team. Download the contract here: “IT Club team contract“.
